Sri Lankan authorities arrested 12 suspects in a major global cybercrime operation, ‘Operation Secure’, led by INTERPOL between January and April 2025. The operation spanned 26 countries and targeted malicious infrastructure tied to data-stealing malware known as infostealers.
Joint raids in Sri Lanka and Nauru led to 14 total arrests and the identification of 40 local victims. Globally, authorities took down over 20,000 malicious IPs and domains, seized 41 servers, and recovered 100 GB of data.
INTERPOL worked with cybersecurity firms including Group-IB, Kaspersky, and Trend Micro to generate Cyber Activity Reports, helping dismantle 79% of identified threat sources.
Infostealers harvest sensitive data like passwords and financial details, often sold on the dark web or used in further attacks. INTERPOL has alerted over 216,000 potential victims worldwide, advising immediate cybersecurity measures.
