2025.Sri Lanka Vehicle Prices Drop as Sales Slow Down

Sri Lanka’s vehicle market is cooling rapidly as a glut of imports and weakening demand push prices down by up to Rs. 1.5 million, according to the Vehicle Importers Association of Lanka (VIAL).

VIAL President Indika Sampath Merinchige said unauthorized imports and a backlog of unregistered vehicles have triggered a market correction. Central Bank data show that USD 705 million was spent on personal vehicle imports from January to August

Prices of popular models such as the Honda Vezel Z Play 2025, Toyota Yaris, and Suzuki Wagon R have all fallen significantly amid reduced Japanese export prices and softening local demand.

Analysts attribute the slowdown to high interest rates, tighter leasing terms, and consumer uncertainty. Despite Toyota leading the market, overall sales momentum is weakening, raising concerns over the auto sector’s sustainability and the broader economic impact of excessive vehicle imports.
