Another 100,000 to arrive end November
Issuing 1,600 daily to clear backlog
The Immigration and Emigration Department said 50,000 passports under category ‘P’ have been received by the Department so far in accordance with the agreement made with the company that was awarded the tender for the purchase of passports.
In addition to this, another quantity of 100,000 passports is expected in end November and another 150,000 passports in December according to the Immigration and Emigration Department.
At the same time, the procurement process for another batch of passports has also begun.Department sources said at present, the Immigration and Emigration Department is issuing 1,600 passports to applicants a day and from December, this quantity will be gradually increased until the department can meet the daily demand.
The Immigration and Emigration Department has taken steps to prepare a formal procedure to book a date and time under the online system for passport applicants and the Department of Immigration and Emigration states that the procedure will be implemented in the near future.
