Road to recovery: IMF hails Ranil govt.’s econ. recovery

Former State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe claimed that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had commended the former Government led by the then President and then Minister of Finance,

Economic Stabilisation and National Policies Ranil Wickremesinghe for the “remarkable efforts in recovering the economy from its worst crisis and setting it on a path towards sustainable growth”.

The IMF Senior Mission Chief met with Wickremesinghe and the team yesterday (18), Semasinghe posted on the social media platform X.

According to Semasinghe, during the said discussions, the team led by Wickremesinghe had “emphasised the importance of maintaining continuity in policies and programs, safeguarding the hard-earned reforms, and ensuring that these achievements are not reversed to secure stability and long-term economic development”.

It is learnt that the IMF delegation was met by a team composed of Ranil Wickremesinghe, former Presidents Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayaka, former presidential advisor Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, and former state minister of finance Shehan Semasinghe.
