Govt. launches paddy procurement, Army assists in facility renovations

The government is to launch a programme for purchasing paddy from the upcoming Maha season harvest.

Following this procurement, the government plans to utilise 209 paddy storage facilities owned by the Paddy Marketing Board.

However, due to the prolonged disuse of these storage facilities and their surrounding premises, cleaning and minor renovations are required to make them suitable for use.

In response, under the directives of the Secretary of Defence and the guidance of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, the Army has been mobilised to assist in this national initiative.

A nationwide paddy storage cleaning programme has been organised by all Security Force Headquarters, running from 18 January to 27 January 2025.

As part of this initiative, the Army began cleaning and carrying out minor renovations at several storage facilities yesterday to ensure they are ready for the forthcoming paddy storage requirements.

This programme is being implemented in parallel with the ongoing “Clean Sri Lanka” National Programme.
