Yoshitha, Daisy Forrest named as suspects in money laundering case

Police have named former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son, Yoshitha Rajapaksa and Daisy Forrest, also known as ‘Daisy Achchi,’ as suspects before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court and filed a case against them under the Money Laundering Act.

Police spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga said an investigation into Yoshitha Rajapaksa began in 2016, following the discovery of over Rs. 59 million in his bank account.

He said Yoshitha had failed to provide a reasonable explanation for how the money was deposited.

Further investigations revealed that the account in question was held jointly with Daisy Forrest. As a result, the Attorney General has instructed the police to include Forrest as a suspect in the case alongside Yoshitha.

SSP Manathunga said that a foreign travel ban has already been imposed on Daisy Forrest, and that all the suspects involved will face prosecution before court.
