Govt under pressure to announce Sri Lanka’s stand in case of Indo-Pak war

The government is under pressure from the opposition to declare Sri Lanka’s position in the event of further escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer Namal Rajapaksa said the people of this country deserve to know the government’s stance under the defence cooperation MoU recently signed with India.

“Sri Lanka is a country that aspires for peace. The government must announce what it will do if tensions escalate into a war in the region,” he said.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dr. Harsha de Silva also said the public should be informed of Sri Lanka’s position in the event of a full-blown war between India and Pakistan.

He said the government should declare its stance in this regard, given the defence cooperation MoU signed with India.

He added that Parliament should be briefed on the contents of the MoU.
