Tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka Surge 22percent in April 2025

Sri Lanka’s tourism sector continues to thrive in 2025, recording a 22.1% year-on-year increase in tourist arrivals during the first 24 days of April. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, 144,320 tourists visited during this period, compared to 118,134 in 2024. The strong momentum brings year-to-date arrivals to 866,596 — a 15% rise from last year.

India remains the top source market with 148,078 arrivals so far in 2025, followed by Russia (105,427) and the UK (85,206). In April alone, India accounted for 29,763 tourists, with the UK and Russia contributing 15,501 and 11,859 respectively.

Tourism officials are optimistic about achieving 224,710 total arrivals in April, supporting the target of 3 million visitors for the year. However, the much-anticipated global tourism promotion campaign and new branding strategy remain pending, despite assurances of a post-New Year launch.
