Sri Lanka’s construction sector expanded in March 2025, but at a slower rate than in February, according to a Purchasing Managers Index compiled by the central bank.
“Sri Lanka Purchasing Managers’ Index for Construction (PMI – Construction), as reflected by the Total Activity Index, recorded a value of 54.3 in March 2025,” the statement said.
In February 2025, the index recorded a value of 55.6.
“Most of the survey respondents reported a continued expansion in construction work during the month, mainly attributed to the conducive environment with stable prices and favourable weather conditions.”
New Orders rose, recording 51.4, but at a slower rate than that of February, 56.9.
“The New Orders index expanded in March, yet many respondents highlighted that most of the currently available construction projects are small-scale developments.”
The Employment index continued to contract, recording a value of 48.5.
The Quantity of Purchases index increased during the month at 54.4.
Suppliers’ Delivery Time remained lengthened during the month, registering 51.4.
The outlook for construction activities for the next three months is optimistic, according to the statement.
