Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles will visit the Maldives, Sri Lanka, India, and Indonesia from June 2 to 5, 2025, for high-level meetings aimed at strengthening diplomatic and defence ties across the Indo-Pacific.
In the Maldives and Sri Lanka, Marles will discuss continued Australian support for developing sovereign capabilities. His visit to India marks the fifth anniversary of the Australia-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reinforcing their shared vision for cooperation in the Indian Ocean.
In Indonesia, he will meet defence counterparts to reaffirm Australia’s commitment to a peaceful and secure Indo-Pacific.
Marles emphasized the importance of regional partnerships, stating Australia’s approach is focused on collaboration to maintain an open, inclusive, and resilient Indo-Pacific. The tour highlights Australia’s growing role in regional stability and its commitment to working with neighbouring nations to uphold sovereignty and shared prosperity.
