SriLankan Airlines will add a new Airbus A330 to its 22-aircraft fleet on Wednesday, June 4, as part of its expansion efforts, a government source confirmed.
The current all-Airbus fleet includes nine A330s and 13 A320/A321s. The move follows government approval in April 2024 to lease four wide-body aircraft — two A330-200s from ORIX Aviation for six years at $360,000 each and two A330-300s from Aergo Capital for eight years at $365,000 each.
The leases replace expiring contracts blocked by a failed 2022 tender. Under new leadership since November 2024, the airline is developing a five-year plan (2025/26–2029/30) aiming to grow its global market share from 35% to 45%.
However, it has yet to complete financial restructuring. The 2025 national budget allocated Rs. 20 billion to address the airline’s legacy debt, following earlier failed profitability targets and a controversial A350 re-fleeting deal.
