Government to enhance national efforts in improving food systems

The government is expected to enhance national efforts in improving food systems, supporting vulnerable communities, and boosting resilience against economic and climate-related shock with the assistance of World Food Programme A total allocation of $ 74.87 million has been earmarked for the plan to support its execution

The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government and the World Food Programme (WFP) of the UN to facilitate the implementation of the WFP’s Sri Lanka Strategic Plan for 2023-2027.

The Sri Lankan strategic plan of the WFP has been prepared as a tool for the main plan covering the four-year period, including strategic priorities and programs.

The strategic plan, developed as a comprehensive framework to address food security and nutritional challenges in the country, outlines a series of priority programs over the four-year duration.

. He said the MoU will formalise and ensure mutual commitments are upheld and the program goals are achieved in a coordinated manner.
