May those who lost their lives in the tragic aviation accident attain supreme bliss, and may those who were injured experience a swift and full recovery- Most Ven. Banagala Upatissa Thero

“We collectively offer our heartfelt prayers for the ultimate peace of those who lost their lives in the recent aviation accident that occurred near the Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat, India.

This message of condolence comes from the Most Venerable Banagala Upatissa Thero, President of the Sri Lanka Mahabodhi Society, Chief Sangha Nayaka of Japan, and Chief Incumbent of Sanchi Chethiyagiri Vihara, who calls upon all to join in these prayers.

This tragic incident, which adds a sorrowful chapter to global history, has deeply affected many, including students from a medical faculty and Mr. Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, who survived the crash. We extend our sincere wishes for their speedy recovery.

We also express our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims from India, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Portugal. The Sri Lanka Mahabodhi Society, with over a century of close historical and cultural ties with the Indian people, joins the Government and people of India, including Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in mourning this great loss.

Furthermore, the Venerable Thero stated that religious observances and merit transfer ceremonies will be conducted according to Buddhist customs, praying for the departed souls to attain liberation, in accordance with their respective religious beliefs.”
