The Life Skill Passport program, initiated by IGC Campus and the NID Development Institute, is creating new pathways for employability and professional development across Sri Lanka. Recognized as one of the country’s most effective life skill coaching initiatives, the program is designed to assist unemployed youth in finding sustainable job opportunities while also helping current employees enhance their workplace performance and career growth.
This structured training and certification course focuses on a customizable set of ten essential life skills. Delivered by experienced career coaches, the program highlights the growing importance of life skills in today’s job market—often surpassing traditional classroom education or technical qualifications in helping individuals secure and succeed in employment.
The Life Skill Passport offers two distinct certification levels. The first level is tailored for young job seekers entering the private sector, providing them with the training, coaching, assessment, and certification they need to compete effectively in the job market. It equips them with crucial soft skills and mindset development before attending interviews, helping them stand out as capable and confident candidates.
The second level is focused on existing employees and delivers more advanced life skill coaching. This level is designed based on a Life Skill Need Assessment (LSNA) conducted within each company or institution. The goal is to make a meaningful impact on an organization’s workforce by strengthening key behavioral competencies and overall productivity through targeted coaching and support.
In the first level of the program, participants are trained in core areas such as goal setting, creative problem solving, time management, assertive communication, discipline, money management, personal productivity, emotional intelligence, selling and adding value, and effective teamwork. Each participant undergoes a complete certification journey, starting with an initial assessment followed by hands-on training and coaching sessions. Throughout the course, both individual and group-based evaluations are used to measure progress and ensure real-world application of skills.
At the conclusion of the program, participants receive detailed feedback and a personalized report showing the development of each skill. They are awarded the Life Skill Passport certificate, a Skill Card, and a unique Skill Score Card, which visually displays their improvement through a spider chart format, comparing the starting and final levels. These documents are certified by IGC Campus and carry global recognition.
The certification is internationally accredited by the Grow, Learn, Connect Program of the World Bank Group, making it widely accepted beyond Sri Lanka. Graduates also receive an online profile endorsed by IGC Campus, which enhances their visibility and opens up networking opportunities with hiring companies and industry professionals.
The Life Skill Passport is open to school leavers after A/Ls, individuals who have dropped out of school early, those already employed, and anyone actively seeking a job. The program strongly promotes the idea that by improving one’s life skills, anyone can rise to excellence in their field, trade, or workplace.
