Govt. allocates Rs. 2 billion for District Development Program 2025

The District Development Program – 2025, a national-level initiative aimed at reducing poverty and accelerating regional growth. Gets under way with Rs. 2 billion assistance granted from the 2025 budget.

The allocations will be made to each district based on poverty levels identified by the Department of Census and Statistics through the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), ensuring that resources are directed to areas with the greatest need.

“A total provision of Rs. 2,000 million has been earmarked for the program, which will be rolled out across all districts of Sri Lanka.

The initiative is designed to address disparities in development by targeting both economic and social dimensions of poverty,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.

The District Development Program – 2025 seeks to achieve the key objectives including – improvement of infrastructure facilities, promotion of local production abilities, an efficient service-supplying mechanism to be made, improvement of trade and marketing facilities, and to strengthen institutional capacities.
