President says cabinet approves 62,000 public service jobs

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the Sri Lankan Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 62,000 people to the public service, speaking at the National Youth Conference yesterday, August 12, 2025.
He added that these appointments are intended to fill essential vacancies across the public sector identified by the government and instructed that the recruitment process be completed as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Spokesman and Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said that out of the 62,314 approved recruitments, some appointments have already been made, exams are being held for others, and interviews are ongoing for the rest.
Minister Jayatissa stated that the vacancies exist in several ministries, with the Defence Ministry receiving approval for 12,433 cadre positions, while the Media and Health Ministries have been approved for another 11,888 positions.
