Sri Lanka Targets USD 36bn in Exports by 2030

Sri Lanka’s Export Development Council of Ministers (EDCM) discussed strategies to boost the nation’s exports to USD 36 billion by 2030, up from last year’s USD 16.17 billion, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

The meeting covered a wide range of initiatives aimed at strengthening both merchandise and service exports. Key areas highlighted included enhancing the gem and jewellery sector, boosting pharmaceutical exports, and expanding poultry meat, tea, and spice exports.

President’s attention was also drawn to measures improving export infrastructure, including the installation of a new scanning machine to enhance customs efficiency and the development of the Trincomalee Port as a strategic export hub. Other initiatives include promoting export-related investments, ensuring a steady supply of raw materials for the electronics export sector, and advancing the Export Hub concept.

The EDCM also discussed entering into new tariff agreements and reviewing tariff structures to support exporters and make Sri Lanka’s products more competitive in global markets.
