Byron Waller, a fifteen-year-old Australian and the youngest pilot currently undertaking a worldwide tour, arrived in Sri Lanka on Sunday, August 17, and reached Ahmedabad, India, today, August 20, 2025, landing at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
His aim is to set a world record as the youngest pilot to fly around the world. His flight, launched under the campaign “Teen Pilot Down Under,” began in Brisbane, Australia, on August 9, 2025, between 8:30 am and 10:00 am.
His journey has already included several key stops. After departing Brisbane, he made an initial stop in Alice Springs due to a weather-related detour and technical delay, departing from there on August 12.
He then proceeded to Port Hedland, his final mainland Australian stop, before continuing to Christmas Island.
He successfully flew from Christmas Island to Singapore on August 15, navigating challenging storm systems that even forced commercial jets to reroute. He then continued to Colombo, Sri Lanka, arriving on August 17, where his flight was locally managed by Premier Aviation Sri Lanka.
Waller has embarked on this remarkable journey not only as an aviation endeavor but also to raise global awareness about youth resilience and chronic illness, as he lives with Crohn’s disease.
Looking ahead, Byron’s planned itinerary includes stops in the UAE, Egypt, and various European countries (including Greece, Italy, France, the UK, and Iceland), North America (Greenland, Canada, and the USA, including the Grand Canyon), and Oceania (Hawaii, Kiribati, American Samoa, and Vanuatu).
He hopes to return to Australia by October 2025, potentially in time for his birthday, depending on flight conditions and logistics.
