Colombo Kite Festival on Sunday

The 5th Derana Colombo International Kite Festival will be held this Sunday, August 24, at Galle Face Green, with participants from around the world joining Sri Lankan kite enthusiasts.

According to Madhawa Madawala, Executive Director of TV Derana and the Derana Media Network, the event will feature 55 international kite fliers from 25 countries competing with 500 local participants in a five-category contest.

Deputy Tourism Minister Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe said the festival will help boost tourism and support the economy.

To ensure safety, DIG Indika Hapugoda announced a special traffic plan, with 21 parking zones for nearly 11,000 vehicles. Police Spokesman ASP F. U. Wootler said 1,500 police personnel, including STF and intelligence officers, will be deployed for security.

The annual festival is expected to draw a large crowd of spectators and add colour to Colombo’s skies.
