National Export Chambers of India and Sri Lanka Join Forces

In a significant boost for regional trade cooperation, the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO). The agreement, facilitated by the Indian High Commission in Colombo, marks a strategic collaboration between the two private sector export bodies.

This partnership aims to enhance trade relations, knowledge exchange, and business networking between Sri Lankan and Indian exporters. A key initiative under the MoU includes a business delegation to India, along with a high-level business forum to connect Sri Lankan exporters with Indian buyers and partners.

Sri Lanka, which has recorded around US$10 billion in export earnings in the first seven months of 2025, sees this collaboration as a timely opportunity to access new markets and strengthen trade ties with India, its largest trading partner.

However, concerns remain over the lack of a clear government strategy to support the private sector and ensure policy alignment with such initiatives. Despite these challenges, the NCE believes this partnership could be a vital step in advancing Sri Lanka’s export competitiveness and long-term economic recovery.
