Liquidation of 33 Defunct State-Owned Enterprises Begins

As part of its aggressive fiscal stabilization program,

the government has formally initiated the liquidation process for 33 defunct State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). The step aims to clean the state balance sheet of inactive entities that have accumulated idle liabilities over previous decades.

Liquidating non-performing, dead-weight state entities sends a strong signal to the IMF and international sovereign creditors regarding fiscal discipline. By curbing administrative leakages and clearing secondary liabilities, the treasury can free up vital fiscal space for essential public infrastructure and targeted social safety nets.
