Interims released show Seylan Bank Group recording a net profit of Rs. 3.08 billion for the quarter ended September 30, marking a 5.96% year-on-year increase. Gross interest income grew 21.63% to Rs. 25.13 billion, fundamentally driven by strategic commercial loan expansion.
Steady corporate profits in systemic banking groups indicate that the broader financial architecture is maintaining strong capitalization. However, with private sector interest margins compressed by the new fuel adjustments, banks will have to navigate a potential rise in non-performing loans (NPLs) within the SME sector over the coming quarter.
