EU to fund €10 million for Sri Lanka Green Trade Project

The European Union has officially agreed to fund a major €10 million sustainable trade project with Sri Lanka. The strategic bilateral initiative will span over a four-year implementation phase.

The funding will target green transition initiatives and climate-resilient trade practices. It is designed to assist domestic export industries in shifting toward ecologically sustainable operations.

A primary objective is improving trade-related institutional capacities across the island. This will make it easier for local companies to comply with stringent international compliance benchmarks.

The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development will direct the project. Officials hope this grant will expand local access into highly regulated European consumer markets.
