Bimal, Harsha exchange words in Parliament

Opposition MP Harsha de Silva and Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayke engaged in an exchange of words in Parliament today over affairs of the Public Finance Committee.

Dr. De Silva who is the chairman of Public Finance Committee said he can reject any proposal presented to the commitee if adequate time is not given to study it.

“I am the Chairman of Public Finance Committee and therefore I can reject it,” Dr. De Silva said.

Leader of the House who responded accused Dr. De Silva of inflicting threats.

“Neither a Government nor an Opposition member can talk in threatening tones,” he said.

Dr. De Silva then recalled that standing orders were suspended by the Gotabaya Rajapaksa government to prevent the appointment of an Opposition member as the chairman of the Public Finance Committee.
