Special investigation teams of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) have raided several wholesale and retail outlets in Colombo District and detected 20 traders selling rice at prices exceeding the maximum retail price.
The CAA said that legal action will be taken against these traders and that night time raids will be carried out island-wide.
CAA Director, Asela Bandara stated that approximately several raids were carried out across the country He further mentioned that officers have been instructed to carry out such operations on the coming weekends and public holidays as well.
Bandara added that with the arrival of imported rice stocks in the market, rice prices are dropping, and paddy prices are also reported to be decreasing in some areas
