The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) yesterday announced that new regulations will be introduced to boost adventure tourism whilst enhancing safety, streamlining operations, and supporting the industry.
The decision was made during a key meeting held under the chairmanship of CAASL Director-General and CEO Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Sagara Kotakadeniya to discuss and develop the regulatory framework.
The initiative will be rolled out as a collaborative effort between the CAASL and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) under the guidance of the Aviation and Tourism Ministry.“We have demarcated areas for these activities – Sigiriya for hot air balloons and Down South for paragliding adventures,” the CAASL Director-General told the Daily FT.
During the discussions, officials focused on establishing a structured regulatory framework to ensure the seamless operation of adventure tourism activities, whilst maintaining high safety standards.
The new regulatory framework will introduce guidelines covering various aspects of the industry including carrying capacity limitations, stringent safety requirements, and minimum criteria for registration as adventure tourism operators.
