
Cabinet approves land for Nanoscience Park

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the transfer of land for the establishment of a Nanoscience Park and the Faculty of Technology at the University of Colombo at the Cabinet meeting held yesterday 21 July,2025.
This decision was made following a proposal by the Minister of Urban Development, Construction, and Housing.
The Urban Development Authority (UDA) had acquired 91.40 hectares (225 acres, 3 roods, 4.14 perches) of land in the Mahenawatte area of Pitipana, Homagama, to support science and technology development.
Out of this land, 19.25 hectares (47 acres, 2 roods, 10.8 perches) will be transferred to the Ministry of Science and Technology for the Nanoscience Park. Another 7.18 hectares (17 acres, 2 roods, 37.74 perches) will be transferred to the University Grants Commission to establish the Faculty of Technology at the University of Colombo.
The transfer of land will be carried out after charging the relevant assessed value, as approved by the Urban Development Authority.
This initiative aims to promote scientific research and technological advancement in Sri Lanka.
