The Government of China has donated the entire quantity of school uniform fabric required for all government and government-assisted schools in Sri Lanka for the year 2025.
The official certificate exchange ceremony took place yesterday July 16, at the Ministry of Education premises in Battaramulla, with the participation of Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, and the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Qi Zhenhong.
This marks the third consecutive year that the Chinese government has donated fabric for school uniforms in Sri Lanka. Unlike in 2023 and 2024, when partial contributions were made, the full national requirement has been met through this year’s donation.
The value of the school uniform fabric for government and government-assisted schools is estimated at LKR 5,171 million, benefiting over four million students island-wide.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China were also in attendance at the event.
