The Court of Appeal today refused to issue an interim order preventing Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon from being arrested in connection with the Weligama hotel shooting incident.
The Court further issued an order directing the police to execute the arrest warrant issued by the Matara Magistrate’s Court against Deshabandu Tennakoon in accordance with the law.
The Court of Appeal’s two-judge bench, headed by Justice (Acting President) Mohamed Laffar, delivered this order pursuant to a writ petition filed by Deshabandu Tennakoon.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal decided to dismiss the writ petition with costs.
In his writ petition, Deshabandu Tennakoon sought an order to stay the arrest warrant issued by the Matara Magistrate.
