Ex-President RW arrested by CID and Produced in Court

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was presented before the Fort Magistrate’s Court this afternoon under the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
A large crowd gathered outside the courthouse in Colombo, and security was tightened as supporters and media filled the area.
Wickremesinghe was arrested by the CID this morning , 22 August 2025, shortly after arriving to provide a statement linked to an ongoing investigation.
The probe relates to his visit to the United Kingdom during his presidency to attend the graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithree Wickramasinghe, where he is alleged to have utilized state funds to cover personal expenses.
