The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology has issued a “Warm Weather Advisory – Extreme Caution Level” for over 20 districts across the country.
According to the advisory, temperatures felt by the human body are expected to rise to the ‘Caution Level’ in parts of the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Western, Southern and Eastern Provinces, as well as in the Ratnapura and Moneragala districts.
The Department urge the public, especially those working outdoors, to take the following precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke:
Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in shaded areas.
Check on elderly individuals and those who are ill, as they are more vulnerable to extreme heat.
Never leave children unattended inside vehicles.
Limit strenuous outdoor activities, seek shade and drink plenty of fluids.
Wear lightweight, light-colored or white clothing to stay cool.
The Meteorology Department continues to monitor the situation and advises the public to stay informed through official updates.
