Government to recruit 15,073 new state workers,

Sri Lanka’s cabinet of ministers this week approved the recruitment of 15,073 workers for vacancies in 18 line ministries, 4 provincial councils and 2 special expenditure units.

This follows the cabinet approving the hiring of 5,882 workers in March.In April, the cabinet approved the recruitment of 18,853 new workers into the public service.

This brings the total hires to 39,808 workers so far this year.The National People’s Power government led by President Anura Disanayake promised to recruit 30,000 people into the public workforce for this year, with 10,000 million rupees of taxes being allocated in the budget for the year.

Unemployed graduates have been the key beneficiaries of the tax system, with over 150,000 being hired in batches over the past two decades on an ad hoc basis, according to an earlier government statement.
