GovPay Streams Rs 400 Million, Boosting Sri Lanka’s Digital Shift

Sri Lanka’s newly launched GovPay platform has processed over Rs 400 million since February 2025, across 170 government institutions. In the Western Province alone, approximately 20,000 traffic-fine payments have been handled, generating almost Rs 30 million. Phase two will introduce a demerit-points system, while rollout is advancing to the Northern Province with full national coverage targeted by year-end. The push for digital payments forms part of a broader strategy by the Central Bank and ICTA to scale daily digital transactions from around 1.65 million now toward 2.15 million, with the aim of strengthening revenue collection, transparency and economic inclusion.
