Lak Sathosa to sell 200,000 coconuts daily starting from today

Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe said that coconuts will be available at concessionary rates at Sathosa outlets in Colombo and other urban areas.
The price of a coconut will be 130 rupees. Previously, only 100,000 coconuts were sold daily through Lak Sathosa.
Minister Samarasinghe said that coconuts from state-owned plantations will be sold to consumers through Lak Sathosa.
He added that there was an attempt to create an artificial shortage in the market although the total coconut harvest is expected to be 2,684 million in 2024 whereas it is a 14 percent decrease when compared to last year.
