The Cabinet has approved a major project to modernize and develop the Pettah Central Bus Station, which is now in very poor condition after many years without repairs.
This upgrade is urgently needed to improve the daily experience of passengers, bus drivers, conductors, and staff who use the station.
The project will cost around LKR 425 million and will be funded through the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ program.
Currently, the bus station’s roads, bus yards, passenger waiting areas, staff restrooms, offices, and drainage systems are all badly damaged, making it very difficult for people to use the facilities.
The Sri Lanka Air Force will provide labor for the construction work.
Other important government bodies — including the Colombo Municipal Council, Ceylon Electricity Board, National Water Supply & Drainage Board, Road Development Authority, and the Urban Development Authority — will also work together to make this project a success.
