Luxury vehicles in Government institutions to be disposed

The Sri Lankan Government has decided to get rid of certain luxury vehicles used by Government institutions.

Taking into consideration the huge cost for maintenance and fuel of certain luxury vehicles used in Government institutions, it has been noted that disposing such luxury vehicles is more economical.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers have approved a proposal presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to empower the Treasury Secretary to dispose the luxury vehicles before 01.03.2025.

The vehicles will be disposed following the prescribed procurement procedure with petrol vehicles that have an engine capacity of more than 1800cc and diesel engine capacity above 2300cc (excluding single cabs/vans/buses) under the custom code 87.03 after conducting a formal study of the existing vehicles in all Government institutions.
