In response to reports claiming that Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Eranga Gunasekara, was named as a suspect in the case involving the setting fire to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence, the Ministry has denied the allegation.
A spokesperson for the Deputy Minister clarified that Gunasekara has not been identified as a suspect, nor has a warrant been issued in connection to the July 9, 2022, incident.
“The Kollupitiya Police station, which handled the case, was contacted, and they confirmed that no such warrant had been issued. The claim that the fire brigade was obstructed while responding to the fire is entirely false,” the spokesperson stated.
