President attends “Sith Ru 2025”

The “Sith Ru – 2025” concert, also known as “Hearts and Minds was held yesterday August 5, afternoon at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo, with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake attending as the chief guest.

Organized by the Department of Social Services, the event aims to bring the aesthetic talents of persons with disabilities to a national level. This year’s concert was particularly significant as it marked its return after a six-year hiatus.

This initiative aligns with the government’s national policy for persons with disabilities, titled “Together – Never Give Up”.

During the event, President Dissanayake presented gifts and awards to children from child guidance centers, child care centers, and vocational training institutes who had emerged victorious in the “Sith Ru 2025” provincial competition.

In a move to further support this vital sector, the Department of Social Services has been allocated 632 million rupees in this year’s budget specifically for the rehabilitation, empowerment, and care of persons with disabilities.

Several other notable figures graced the occasion, including Upali Pannilage, Minister of Rural Development, Social Protection and Community Empowerment; Vasantha Piyathissa, Deputy Minister; Sampath Mantrinayake, Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Protection and Community Empowerment; Darshani Karunaratne, Director of the Department of Social Services; and senior officials from the Department of Social Services.
