The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the establishment of a Presidential Task Force to drive the rapid and sustainable development of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, in line with the Government’s policy declaration “A new tourism industry – An attractive destination.”
Speaking at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the Task Force will be chaired by the Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath and will include representatives from multiple ministries, State agencies and tourism sector stakeholders.
“The requirement of establishment of a Presidential Task Force has been recognised on both short-term development targets and long-term sustainable growth strategies, ensuring that initiatives are implemented more productively and efficiently,” he added.
Dr. Jayatissa said the Task Force will focus to obtain guidance and take actions to achieve immediate development targets as well as acquiring a higher level of sustainable development in the tourism industry.
