The Road Development Authority (RDA) has spent Rs. 14,715 crore on road reconstruction projects that fall outside its jurisdiction, according to a recent report issued by the National Audit Office.
The report highlights that this expenditure was incurred between 2020 and 2023. It further reveals that Rs. 381 crore of this amount was allocated for the reconstruction, repair, and development of 6,426 kilometers of roads under the My Neguma Rural Road Development Program.
These findings are documented under the section Road Rehabilitation Outside the Scope of the Authority.
Additionally, the audit report points out that the financial statements did not reflect the value of 8,958 kilometers of roads—equivalent to 73% of the total road system.
Moreover, despite the requirement to establish a Road System Development Coordination Committee and formulate an action plan for road development and maintenance, no such measures had been implemented, the report states.
