Reggae legend Alpha Blondy lands in Colombo today

World-renowned reggae legend Alpha Blondy arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport today (16) ahead of his debut performance in Sri Lanka.

Blondy, widely celebrated as the most iconic reggae star after Bob Marley, was warmly welcomed by officials from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. He is set to perform on Sunday (19) at the Air Force Grounds in Colombo, backed by his acclaimed band, Solar System.

He was accompanied by four family members. The concert is seen as a milestone cultural event for the island nation.

Known for global hits like Jerusalem, Cocody Rock, and Brigadier Sabari, Blondy’s music blends African rhythms with reggae’s traditional pulse. His arrival signals Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as a destination for world-class entertainment.

International Reggae Day was celebrated this year on July 1, and this event comes just weeks after that global celebration.

The concert, titled Alpha Blondy Live in Sri Lanka, is organised by Big Blast Events in partnership with Yes101 and EarGear Productions.
