Rs.4.5 Mn worth of jewelry and valuables stolen from Swiss Ambassador’s residence

A stock of gold jewelry, including a diamond-studded ring and luxury wristwatches, with a total value of approximately Rs. 4.5 million, has been stolen from a safe at the official residence of the Swiss Ambassador in Sri Lanka, police said.

The Kollupitiya Police have launched an investigation based on a complaint made on Tuesday by the Swiss Ambassador to Sri Lanka.

According to the complaint, the Ambassador had left for Switzerland on April 12th and returned to Sri Lanka on the 27th. The Kollupitiya Police state that statements have been recorded from the staff members.

However, police investigations have revealed that the residence had not been securely locked when the Ambassador left for Switzerland.

Two female domestic workers who were employed at the residence are under suspicion, and investigations are underway to apprehend them.

The investigations are being carried out by Chief Inspector Lalith Silogama, the Officer-in-Charge of the Kollupitiya Police Station, along with a team of officers conducting further inquiries under the guidance of Colombo South-SSP Lucian Suriyabandara.
