Making a historic landmark in the tea industry, Russel’s (pvt) Ltd which launched five variants of Ceylon Tea to the international market signed a MoU to provide 4% of its international sales proceeds to the development of the vedda community.
The MOU to provide 4% of its international sales proceeds from the sale of ‘Ceylon Ancestral Herbal Infusions’ towards the development of the vedda community was signed by the Director Russell’s Tea, Jehan Perera with the leader of the Indigenous population the Uruwarige Wannila Aththo on Saturday at Amari Hotel Colombo.
Perera said that they took a lot of natural health benefit insights from the ‘Vedda’ community when doing R&D towards producing the ‘Ceylon Ancestral Herbal Infusions’ tea and felt that in return they should financially help their community by channeling some of the sales proceeds to them.
This will also be the first time in the history of the Veddha community that they will be gaining dollars for assisting in sharing their traditional know-how of ‘healthy living’ for helping in producing healthy tea with a private entity.
The five variants of Russels tea are, Ceylon Health and Wellness Teas, Ceylon Ancestral Herbal Infusions, Ceylon Fine Teas, Ceylon Organic Specialty Teas and Ceylon Artisan Teas.
