The Police Department and the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka have begun accepting digital payments through the government’s GovPay platform.
The new online traffic fine payment system in the Police Department was first piloted in April across eleven police divisions and is being expanded to all police stations in the Western and Southern Provinces by the end of this month.
The Supreme Court, too, has integrated with GovPay, allowing the public and legal professionals to pay for services such as filing fees, document copies, and enrolment charges online. Officials say this transition is aimed at improving transparency and reducing the risk of corruption.
Meanwhile the government’s digital payment platform, GovPay, has onboarded over 50 agencies and enables nearly 700 services to be paid online. Since its launch in February 2025, the system has processed over 7,000 transactions, collecting LKR 65.62 million in revenue.
Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne said the platform promotes transparency and financial inclusion. GovPay, developed by ICTA in partnership with LankaPay, now integrates with 13 banks and six fintech apps.
A new version of the platform offers an improved user interface and real-time dashboards. Online traffic fine payments, currently active in the Western and Southern Provinces, will be rolled out nationwide by September.
