The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) on 1 August held a key meeting with a visiting delegation from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to review progress on Sri Lanka’s bid to export poultry products to Singapore. This follows two recent SFA inspections of local poultry facilities, including visits to New Anthony’s Farm, NELNA Farm, and Ceylon Grain Elevators in March 2024, and subsequent audits from 28 July to 1 August at DAPH, Pussella Farm, Jaya Farm, and Bairaha Farms PLC.
Sri Lanka showcased its strength as a reliable poultry exporter with a disease-free status, strong product quality, and strategic logistics advantages. Poultry exports rose by 37% in 2024 to reach $5.4 million, with major markets including the Maldives, Japan, Qatar, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. Authorities are also targeting market entry into China.
Several Sri Lankan firms have already been shortlisted for potential exports to Singapore, with applications submitted to the SFA. Discussions focused on meeting Singapore’s stringent food safety and regulatory standards.
The meeting, chaired by EDB Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe, concluded on a positive note with hopes for early market access approval, signalling stronger bilateral agricultural ties and greater diversification in Sri Lanka’s export base.
