Sri Lanka secured international support for its economic recovery and investment drive during the 2025 Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group in Washington D.C. Led by CBSL Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, the Sri Lankan delegation including senior Central Bank and Finance Ministry officials held key discussions with the IMF Managing Director, World Bank President and U.S. Treasury representatives. They secured commitments for cooperation in infrastructure, energy and digital transformation, as well as technical assistance and financing. The delegation’s participation in the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable drew praise for Sri Lanka’s recent debt-restructuring progress and calls for enhanced transparency in commercial-debt processes. The strong global response boosts Sri Lanka’s credibility, opens doors to fresh investment and underscores its reform momentum. Governor Weerasinghe was also awarded an “A Grade” by Global Finance Magazine for his leadership in navigating monetary policy amid global headwinds.
