The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have extended their collaborative program to promote Sri Lanka’s ICT/BPM sector in the Japanese market by another year.
Launched last year, the initiative supports 30 local SME ICT/BPM companies and startups with market intelligence, business coaching, and matchmaking services. It is aimed at strengthening technological exchange, driving innovation, and expanding trade opportunities between Sri Lanka and Japan.
Originally scheduled to conclude in October 2025, the program was extended following a request from the EDB. The extension will provide additional benefits such as a Proof of Concept (POC) grant scheme for selected firms and Training-of-Trainers (ToT) opportunities, ensuring broader industry participation.
“The extension allows Sri Lankan ICT firms to deepen their engagement with the Japanese market and accelerate long-term growth prospects,” the EDB said in a statement.
The agreement was signed by JICA Sri Lanka Chief Representative Kenji Kuronuma and EDB Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe. Senior officials from JICA Headquarters and its Colombo office, as well as representatives from Deloitte Tohmatsu Financial Advisory LLC and the EDB, were also present at the signing ceremony.
The EDB emphasized that Japan remains a critical growth market for Sri Lankan ICT exports, and this program will enhance competitiveness, foster innovation, and position Sri Lanka as a reliable digital solutions provider in Asia.
