Sri Lanka studying 300MW to 400MW nuclear power plant

Sri Lanka is studying the building of a 300 to 400 Mega Watt nuclear power plant, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody told parliament.

“From the nuclear side, we are trying to generate 300 to 400 MW of energy,” Minister Jayakody said. Sri Lanka has previously said that a regulatory framework for nuclear energy is being developed, with international assistance to start nuclear energy

Work relating to nuclear energy is being done under the direct supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Energy, along with Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board and the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council he said
