Sri Lanka is planning to build and connect 710Mega Watts of wind power plants in the next few years, as part of efforts to boost renewable energy generation, Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody said.
Among the larger wind plants are two 50 MW plants in Mullikulam, 210MW in Veravil in the Kilonochchi district and 300 MW in Manthai West division.On the two 50 MW in Mullikulam, preliminary work is being done and in Veravil, the Environmental Impact Assessment is being initiate, Minister Jayakody told parliament.
Some of the smaller plants have already been awarded to developers. The Mannar 50MW plant is expected to be completed by 2027, he said.Other smaller wind plants include 10MW of wind in Alankulam, four 5 MW plants in Mannar and two 5 MW plants in Madampe.
Sri Lanka is also planning 234MW of floating solar plants, Ministery Jayakody said.
