Sri Lanka is setting up a tax crimes unit within the Department of Inland Revenue as part of efforts to reduce corruption, according to International Monetary Fund program documents.
“We will establish a new Tax Crimes Investigation (TCI) unit within IRD, separate from standardaudit functions, by end-February 2025,” the document said.It is not clear whether the tax crime unit has already been set up.
Digitizing process is also aimed at reducing corruption, the report said.Sri Lanka is making to improve tax administration as part of efforts to boost revenue.
